3rd week of class and I’m trying my best to keep up. The problem I have is one that everyone is familiar with, that of procrastination. The whole idea of procrastination is based on the magical theory of time warping, where “if I really wanted to, I can do it in a snap”. Of course, this course of reasoning tends to leave out one very important part of this magical spell. We are not divine entities capable of bending dimensions beyond what most people comprehend. Isn’t it sad though? What would I do if I could stop time for a day… Well, I’d probably just put off whatever it was I needed to do and see what I could do when the world couldn’t move forward in time. Quite a conundrum, no?
One of my projects this semester was to build a mechanical frog, with the purpose of travelling as far as possible while maintaining the form of travel to only one leap. Of course, the first thing people think of would be to use springs, but my group thought we’d try to break the norm a bit and so we decided to use a mouse trap spring instead of the common compression springs you see most of the time in your retractable pens and whatnot. After 2 weeks of testing, we discovered much to our chagrin that the mouse trap springs, while capable of amusingly ending the life of a disgusting and filthy rodent, was incapable of launching a small wooden frog (ideally it should look like a frog but whatever <_<) into the air. Rather, it simply caused our frog to somersault about 2 inches from the starting point. Unless we discover a new species of frog that emulates this form of travel, we were going to have to come up with a whole new plan.
Next up, assignments. I have a tutorial (or workshop, whichever you prefer) that frankly speaking, does little to no good in helping me with the subject it’s for. Out of 14 questions, the tutor only covered 3, and thosewere the easy ones. That’s not all, however. We discovered that the second tutor (there are 2 tutors covering different topics in this 2 hour workshop) is one of those guys who may know a lot about what we’re trying to learn, but is pretty hopeless when it comes to teaching. Makes me wonder why I pay so much money for this.
Another assignment I have would be for my Introduction to Biomechanics class. At least that’s quite interesting. Not too many problems there, the tutor basically covers most of the assignment in the class, so that when we start on the assignment, the amount of work left to do is actually quite minimal.
As for the last subject, not much progress here. So far it’s only lectures and some cool videos being screened at the lectures. We haven’t really started on our research paper for this subject, although my group has decided on a topic (more on this some other day), so I guess all that’s left is actually getting all of us to sit down together and do stuff =\
All in all I had to skip a few personal appointments to make more time to do all this work, but at least I’m covering more ground this way. I can’t afford to let the past grab me by the neck and start mauling me all over again.
